DELICIOUS CLAM
A former wig shop and hairdressers converted into three floors in the Castlegate area of Sheffield, comprising a basement practise space, first floor recording studio, and ground floor 60 capacity venue. Described by Crack Magazine as “The Keystone of Sheffield’s DIY Community”, it provides vital space for DIY and grassroots musicians to write, record, and perform alongside national and international musicians such as Amyl and the Sniffers, Self Esteem, and Crack Cloud. Our approach as a musician-led space for musicians has cemented the reputation of the venue as an important part of the community.
My role as a founding director has been to oversee all strategic and day to day operations of the organisation, which in 2022 was awarded an Arts Council England project grant to help improve facilities and employ a part time events manager.
During this time I designed and built a new bar, improved the technical facilities including PA and lighting, and applied for a premises license which was granted in September 2023 following improvement works. This allowed clam to run a bar full-time, to help with the financial stability of the space.
